Hodges Custom Designs - creates designs to meet your specific needs.
Hodges Custom Designs provides an individual service. Just give us a general idea of what
you want. We will produce a design providing you assurance that the end product is exactly,
or better than, what you had in mind when you contacted us.
A typical project is:
- The customer contacts us with their view of what they want (preliminary sketches, pictures from magazines, etc.).
- We meet at Hodges Custom Designs where we narrow down the big picture, and make preliminary selection of woods, doors, drawers, hardware, and finishes.
- Hodges Custom Designs provides a price.
- When the price is accepted by the customer a contract is initiated.
- Hodges Custom Designs visits the project site, double checks measurements, access to the installation area, availability of power, on site work space, etc.
- A dimensioned detail design is created, including pictures of the finished project and the "Design Check List" is initiated.
- At this point the detail design is verified, including such items as, sizes for drawers, doors, shelves, and cabinet length- width and depth, door and drawer pulls, hinges, drawer slides, toe kicks, moulding, finish (color and sheen), and all the items that make your project.
- Hodges Custom Designs orders material.
- Hodges Custom Designs builds your project, finishes it and prepares it for delivery.
- Hodges Custom Designs, delivers your project and installs it (if applicable).
Hodges Custom Designs has a room we call our design center. In our design center we have pictures,
drawings, and samples to help you select the following:
- woods - We offer a large selection of woods from around the world (including exotic woods). Some projects are all one wood type and others include two or more types of wood. In addition to the standard plywood with veneer on both sides we offer plywoods with a veneer finish on one side and a melamine finish on the other, we put the melamine on the inside of the cabinet this makes for easy cleaning and the veneer on the outside allows us to finish the cabinet to look like a fine piece of furniture.
- doors - we offer a large selection of doors, including raised panel doors, flat panel doors, glass panel doors, and several rail and style designs including mitered corners, arched tops and more.
- drawer fronts - we offer a large selection of drawer fronts, usually the drawer front gets narrowed down to a selection that goes well with the door(s) selected.
- drawer boxes -- there are different drawer box types, the two most popular are solid wood, and Baltic birch plywood. Our standard is maple solid wood with a ?" plywood bottom. Our standard construction is dovetail joints.
- door hinges - we offer several different door hinges, European hinges, decorative hinges, standard door hinges and more. The European hinge is the most popular, it is not visible in the closed position, offers easy adjustment, and the door(s) are easily removed and re-installed. There is a variety of degrees of opening. We also offer pocket door hardware - pocket doors are very popular in entertainment centers and computer workstations.
- drawer slides - drawer slides have several options, ball bearing slides, under mount ball bearing slides, and epoxy slides to name a few. There are lock open and lock closed slides, self closing (when the drawer is 1 ?" from the closed position the drawer slides complete the closing process). There are drawer slides that restrict slamming the drawer closed - they help close the drawer gently.
- moulding -- we offer a wide range of moulding, crown moulding, trim moulding, base moulding, rope moulding, dentil moulding and more. The mouldings come in a variety of woods and sizes.
- finishes -- it seems there is an endless combination of finishes. There are stains and dyes for color and then we have flat, satin and high gloss finishes; not to mention paints and all those combinations. We have over 50 standard colors and finishes and frequently we get a custom finish to match existing furniture or room colors. We also do special finishes such as crackle with multiple colors, pealed paint, distressed wood, just about anything you can imagine.
- Hodges Custom Designs is an authorized distributor for Top Knobs - Top Knobs includes a large selection of door, drawer , and appliance knobs and pulls. They are available in a variety of shapes, materials and colors (including Brushed Satin Nickel, Black Iron, Polished Brass, Polished Chrome, Rust, Antique Copper and more).
- If any of our standard offerings fail to meet your needs we will work with you to develop a design and select woods, hardware, and custom mix finishes that meet your expectations.
When you leave our design center all of us will have a good
idea of what you want your project to look like and how it will be made.
We use Cabinet Vision Solid software to produce our detail designs. We show you how the finished product will
appear in your home or office. The software also allows us to make changes quickly so that you can compare
alternatives. Cabinet Vision Solid also provides us bills of material and cut lists. All of these features
improve the cost and schedule for our customers custom built cabinetry and furniture.

Using our detailed design check list you get to approve the design, wood selection, hardware,
and finish before we start cutting wood. We will offer recommendations based on our
experience and work with you along the way to insure that you order what you want and that
we build what you ordered.
